Breed Judging |
When your breed is about to be judged all entrants are to assemble close to the entrance of the ring. Listen for the Steward's call.
Classes are judged in numerical order, first dogs then bitches.
Dogs will be judged from class 1, 2, 3, 4, .........to 11.
(The actual classes will depend on what is offered at that particular show)
Not all classes may have entries.
At the conclusion of all the male classes the dogs placed first in their class, (with the exception of baby puppy, class 1) are then judged for the best dog and reserve dog in that breed.
This is called Challenge.
The dog that wins gains Challenge points which are accumulated to achieve an Australian Championship.
Dogs enter the ring in the following order.
The winner from class 11..... 4, 3 and 2 (Baby Puppy Class 1 is not eligible for Challenge).
When Dog Challenge has been awarded, the winning dog leaves the ring.
His place is taken by the dog who came second to him in his class.(ie if the winner of Dog Challenge was from class 10, then the Dog who received 2nd placing in class 10 would then enter the ring, and join the line up, taking the position that has been vacated.)
Reserve Challenge is then awarded.
Bitches are judged in the same order as for Dogs.
Class 1A, 2A, ...... 11A
(not all classes may have entries.)
The same applies as for the judging of Challenge Dog.
The same applies as for the judging of the Reserve Challenge Dog.
The best Dog (ie the winner of Dog Challenge)
and the best Bitch ( the winner of Bitch Challenge)
are then judged for the best of breed.
The dog enters the ring followed by the bitch.
When Best of Breed has been awarded, the winner leaves the ring.
The winner of reserve challenge from the sex that is awarded Best of Breed now enters the ring and takes the vacated position.
Runner up Best of Breed is now judged, from the dogs remaining in the ring.
Class in breed is judged starting with Baby Puppy and continuing up till Open.
First in Baby Puppy Dog (class1) and First in Baby Puppy Bitch (class1A) compete for Baby Puppy in Breed.
Then the winner from class 2 and class 2A compete for Minor Puppy in Breed.
Then class 3 and 3A for Puppy in Breed etc. until all classes are covered.
Please note: This section of judging can be very confusing. If in doubt listen to see if the Steward calls your number. Wait until all of the judging for your breed is completed before leaving the assembly area near the ring.
The winner of Best of Breed and Runner up Best of Breed automatically win their Class in Breed.
If they are both from the same class, then the Best of Breed winner also wins the Class in Breed.
This concludes the judging for your breed.
The dogs judged Best of Breed, Runner up Best of Breed and all winners of their Class in Breed then advance to the Group Special judging.
